Privacy Policy

The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) is committed to respecting our certificant's privacy, and recognizes the need for appropriate protection and management of personally identifiable information. The following is a summary of our current policies and procedures related to information gathering and dissemination practices.

Release of Information

Other than designating an applicant as a "Prospect" or "Eligible", the NMTCB does not release information about an application or its status to any person other than the applicant, and only after confirming the identity of said applicant. Further, the NMTCB does not release individual examination results to applicants in any manner other than by letter sent by USPS and addressed to the candidate at his/her registered address. Under no circumstance will examination results be released by telephone or email.

In an effort to help improve the quality of Nuclear Medicine Technology Education Programs, the NMTCB does release examination results to the Program Director associated with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Education Program from which a program graduate applicant graduated in order to become eligible to sit for the examination. This information is released only after confirming the identity of the Program Director responsible for the program from which the applicant graduated. Upon request by the applicant, the NMTCB will withhold the individual examination scores from the Program Director.

The NMTCB rents mailing addresses to third party professional and commercial organizations, but does not release telephone numbers or e-mail addresses to outside agencies.

Online Verification - The NMTCB Online Verification system is intended to allow the public to confirm the certification status of certificants. Information made public through Online Verification includes the certificant's name, city, state, certifications held, certification status, and the last expiration date of certification. Only certificants with the certification status of Active, Inactive, Incomplete, Retired, Emeritus, Probation, Suspended and Revoked, will be displayed.

Certificant Directory - Personal information is included in the online NMTCB Certificant Directory that is accessible on the NMTCB website by Active NMTCB certificants only. The online Directory can only be searched by entering an individual's name. Categorical searches of the online Certificant Directory (for example, searches by state, etc.) are not permitted. Upon request, certain individuals representing organizations responsible for confirming credentials of multiple employees, certificants or registrants, may be granted access to a section of our website which would allow multiple searches by certificate number. Application for this privilege is carefully reviewed before permission is granted through the issuance of a specific username and password and multiple search activity is monitored and recorded. Abuse of this privilege is not tolerated and such permission may be revoked at any time. Unless restricted as described below, information displayed in the Certificant Directory includes the certificants mailing address, email address and certifications held.

In an attempt to meet the needs of our certificants, the following questions are included on the examination application forms. "Are you interested in receiving mail from professional organizations?" "Are you interested in receiving mail from commercial organizations? (credit cards, insurance, etc.)" "The NMTCB Certificant Directory is available online to NMTCB certificants. Do you want your phone number to be included with your information?" If you do not want your mailing address and/or email address to be included in the online NMTCB Certificant Directory, please let us know by email correspondence at board@nmtcb.org.

The NMTCB reserves the right to disclose your personal information in (a) accordance with NMTCB policies; (b) when verifying information you provide; (c) in cooperation with other certification or licensing organizations; or (d) when we believe that disclosure is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action against fraud or other illegal activities, or as required by law (e.g., to respond to court orders, subpoenas, or other legal process).

Collection of Personal Information

The NMTCB collects names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, social security numbers, e-mail addresses, and other information in order to identify and contact applicants and certificants, conduct business, and enhance services.

Personal information may be collected through the following means:

  1. Manual and Electronic Forms. Personal information is collected from exam applicants and certificants upon renewal of their certification. Certificants may be asked to supply - on a voluntary basis - personal information, or update the information we currently have on file.
  2. Surveys. Occasionally, we conduct surveys regarding the profession of nuclear medicine technology, the NMTCB's future direction and/or certificant satisfaction. Information collected from surveys conducted by the NMTCB is only shared in summary and no personally identifying information is released.

Social Security Number Privacy Protection

The NMTCB collects social security numbers as necessary to ensure positive identification for (1) entrance to examinations; and (2) when communicating about sensitive certification information. We restrict access to social security numbers to employees, agents, and subcontractors who need social security numbers to support these purposes. We provide social security numbers to government agencies, as required by law. We strive to protect social security numbers from unlawful disclosure and keep them confidential by maintaining physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with applicable state and federal regulations.

Credit Card Security

The NMTCB treats certificant credit card numbers as critical assets that must be guarded at all times against loss and unauthorized access, online and off-line. This is accomplished through industry-standard computer security methods, encryption techniques and strict internal administrative processes.
